Frequently Asked Questions

How do I place an order?

You can place orders on our online shop for local delivery. If you would like to place a custom order, a bulk/event/wholesale order, or any other order with special requests or dietary concerns, please use our Contact Form to describe order details and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

How far in advance should I place my order?

We ask for three days to process your order before delivery. This is to ensure we make your order fresh due to the nature of macarons. If you have a bulk, custom, or large event order, we recommend contacting us at least a week before you need the macarons.

Are your macarons gluten-free?

Macaron ingredients are naturally gluten-free based on an almond flour. Although we make the macarons in an environment where gluten ingredients exist, we take the utmost care to separate the ingredients and to wash our equipment separately from other equipment. We strongly recommend you contact us if you have any other allergies or dietary restrictions.

Do you offer any macarons without food colouring?

Yes! We can make our macarons without any food colouring. We use approved food flavourings in our shells and ganaches so that your taste buds get a unique experience in every bite. We use colourings according to the EU Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008

Do you offer shipping?

Butterwick Cakes offers shipping with Royal Mail through their first class delivery service as we try to get them to you as quickly as possible. Please note that this is not a guaranteed service. The first class service is an 'aimed for' service where the majority of parcels reach their destination by the next working day. No complaints can be made until 7 days have passed without delivery. Orders are processed for shipping between 10 am and 3 pm. Any orders placed after 3 pm will be processed the following day, with the exception of orders placed on a Friday or during the weekend, in which case any orders placed after 3 pm will be processed on the following Monday. You will be sent a dispatch notification via email to tell you your order is on its way. Unfortunately we do not dispatch on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays - even we need a break. Please be aware that macarons are delicate and there is always a risk of some damage even tough we have found the best possible packaging for shipping. If you are not happy with the condition the macarons arrive in then drop us a note and we will help resolve your dissatisfaction.

Where do you deliver to?

Currently we send macarons all across the UK including Northern Ireland where we use Royal Mail. We do not ship internationally.

How long will my macarons last?

Our macarons are so delicious that they won’t last as you will have eaten them so quickly. Joking aside, the macarons will last up to 7 days after you receive them as long as you fridge them. They will still be edible after that but the texture and taste will change. Macarons are best enjoyed between one and four days after they have been made.

How should I store my macarons once I receive them?

Macarons are incredibly delicate so we have made every effort to package them to prevent damage. Once you receive them we recommend you put them in the fridge until and unless you are ready to enjoy them in which case let them come to room temperature once removed from the fridge.

Where is Butterwicks Vegan Patisserie located?

We are an online-only macaron patisserie, and we operate out of our bespoke kitchen in Leicestershire, which has received a 5 star rating for Food & Hygiene from Charnwood Borough Council. We also frequently pop up at a number of vegan fairs and vegan markets organised in the UK where you can come meet us! You can also follow us on social media (Instagram @ButterwickCakes, Facebook @ButterwickCakes) and sign up for our mailing list to stay updated on all the latest macaron sightings!

Why are macarons so expensive? They’re just biscuits, at the end of the day?

Trust us, macarons are a labour of love, patience, skill, art and more patience. They require practice, precision and technique. We use fresh ingredients in all of our macarons, and design every shell and filling combination. As we produce vegan macarons, there is an additional element of skill and precision required which the egg based macaron can forgive. Time is a macaron’s true friend so much so that you can’t truly enjoy a macaron until it has had at least 24 hours to “mature” to the correct macaron texture. We hope you can appreciate why they are considered such delicacies and demand a premium. They’re absolutely worth-it though!
